Presidential Search Update March 2025

March 10, 2025

Dear LMU Community,

The presidential search process continues to progress on schedule, and I am pleased to report that the Presidential Search Committee’s steadfast efforts have positioned the university well as we enter its final stages.

  • Students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, regents, leaders, and other stakeholders participated in 33 listening and engagement sessions last semester. These sessions helped inform the search committee’s recruitment focus and resulted in a highly competitive presidential position profile that aligns with the university’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • We received many recommendations from the community, resulting in 141 nominations that were actively pursued. The candidate pool more than doubled when compared to the last presidential search with 66 applications submitted, drawing interest from highly qualified applicants, including presidents, provosts, and senior leaders from the nation’s premier higher education institutions. In alignment with the university’s values and thoughtful recruitment efforts, the candidate pool is also the most diverse in university history, with women and men leaders, half of whom come from historically underrepresented groups.
  • The Presidential Search Committee recently reached a significant milestone, concluding interviews with exceptionally talented semi-finalists. The Committee will now host finalist candidates for confidential interviews in March and April.
  • The original search timeline remains unchanged with the goal of making final recommendations to the Board of Trustees at its meeting in April 2025.

Throughout this process, the Committee has been guided by LMU’s Catholic mission in the Jesuit and Marymount traditions and its enduring commitments to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community. This work is being undertaken with the utmost care, diligence, and optimism for LMU’s future, ensuring that we identify a leader who will build on the university’s strengths and guide its next era of distinction.

I appreciate the community's support and engagement, and I look forward to sharing updates in the weeks ahead. Should you have any questions, please contact SVP John Kiralla at john.kiralla@lmu.edu
